The Kingdom is in the Holy Spirit
by Derek Brown
How is the Kingdom outworked?
1. Jesus gave to His disciples the message of the Kingdom – Gospels, Acts 1:3
2. Then He and the Father sent the Holy Spirit to bring the Kingdom.- John 14:26, 16:7
3. Our responsibility is to understand the message of the Kingdom and to work with the Holy Spirit to see it outworked.
What is the message of the Kingdom?
| Father | Son | Holy Spirit |
| Creation | Salvation | Completion |
| Above | Among | In us |
| Science | Scripture | Experience |
| Social Justice, art & politics, responsible dominion | Evangelism, discipleship, personal ethics | Emotional health and spiritual power, signs and wonders, worship |
| Reflective | Proactive | Affective |
| Rationalism | Activism | Emotionalism |
| Providence | Justification | Sanctification |
| Creation commission | Evangelism commission | Relational commission |
How do we work with the Holy Spirit?
Starting point
1. We recognize the Holy Spirit is already at work in our communities and all the spheres of our world.
2. We recognize that all Christians are individually gifted by the Holy Spirit to bring the Kingdom to their world.
3. This means the work of the Holy Spirit in bringing the Kingdom will be expressed in a great variety of ways. He is called the Spirit of truth, justice, life, grace and supplication, conviction.
Implications
1. Holy Spirit wants to be involved in every aspect of our life as He was in the life of Jesus – birth, baptism, temptation, ministry, death and resurrection.
2. Holy Spirit will take us into unchartered, challenging areas – Ethiopian leader.(Acts 8:29), Ananias (Acts 9:10), Cornelius (Acts 10:19)
3. Not always easy to find the right way – ( Acts 16:6)
4. When the Spirit speaks we have to take the action to see the Kingdom planted
