Awakening the Nations

Report from Vanuatu

Last month I had the privilege to be one of the speakers at the Awakening the Nations conference in Vanuatu – “Leadership for Church, Government and Nations”. This conference is the vision of Pastor Roy Funu (pictured) from the Solomon Islands who is now based in Bundaberg in Queensland. The Awakening conference received personal endorsement from the Prime Minister and President of Vanuatu.
The program included crusade meetings, community evangelism rallies and teaching for leaders. I had the opportunity to present 3 leadership sessions on the Kingdom. These were well received and as a result we are looking at presenting a seminar on the Kingdom next February in Parliament House to be attended by leaders from government, business and the church. My sessions were videoed and we plan to present DVDs of these sessions to all those who attend next year.
Over the next few years Roy plans to hold similar conferences throughout the Melanesian islands and he is keen for the message of the Kingdom to be a central part of these events. So please continue to pray for Roy and for the vision God has given him.

More than Profit

by Tim Stafford

One of the great things about the Kingdom is that is much more than a message. The Kingdom provides a framework of thinking that leads to practical outcomes. Here is a wonderful story of community transformation within a poor sector of the Philippine capital of Manila.
“Wednesday mornings at 8, 24 women crowd into Leticia’s Eatery in Muntinlupa City, a poor Filipino community on the southeast edge of Metropolitan Manila. They sing “Lupang Hinirang” (“Chosen Land”), their national anthem, recite a pledge of commitment, pray, and sing Christian songs. After that, 52-year-old Letty, who owns the eatery along the narrow San Guillermo Street, leads a Bible study.
Finally, the women get down to business. They belong to Fellowship 3 of the Center for Community Transformation (CCT), a community development organization that focuses on fellowship members’ spiritual as well as economic needs. Almost exclusively women, CCT business owners earn money selling fish and bananas, trading inexpensive products, operating mobile phone stations, and selling consumer goods door to door. All are facing new struggles to make ends meet: About 35 percent of the Philippines’ 97 million people are destitute, living on $1.25 or less a day. The global financial crisis has only compounded their plight, as the national economy is down 30 percent.”

Promoting discussion of the Kingdom

I am part of a couple of ministers’ networks that meet regularly to talk about the Kingdom. We have found these times very helpful and we would like to see others enter into this same conversation because we feel the message of the Kingdom is very relevant for today.
Given our busy lifestyles we thought it would be good to promote small MP3 audios that can be downloaded onto mobile phones, ipods and MP3 players.
The suggestion is that each of us can send this link to our friends with a comment like ‘Hi I just listened to this short message on the Kingdom I thought you might like to check it out.”

8 MP3 to promote

So we have come up with 8 MP3 each of which is about 5 mins. You can listen to any of these and then pass on the link to your friends and contacts. Here is the link

  • Kingdom is the sovereign rule of God
  • Kingdom is a present reality
  • Church is not the Kingdom
  • Kingdom of God is within every person
  • Kingdom happens outside the church
  • Kingdom is expressed in a variety of passions
  • Kingdom fruit is more than evangelism
  • Every Christian is an agent for the Kingdom
